A custom wisteria kanzashi set, complete with kanzashi, bridge, silver bira-bira kanzashi, and butterfly maezashi.
This is the first complete set I've made for someone else, and also the first custom order I've had from my new Etsy shop. I tried hard to make it turn out perfectly, custom things make me nervous because I'm afraid I won't be able to match the other person's vision. The bira-bira kanzashi and the butterfly are going to be little surprises for the customer, because she's my first, and she was very patient and super friendly, even after I accidentally dyed the first set of petals the wrong color.
Having finished this though, I think I'll have to revise my prices for the next set. I try to keep them low, but I have to make sure they're fair, also. I'm used to making kanzashi in a leisurely manner, and trying to get such a large order out in a short time frame was pretty stressful, and was more work than I had anticipated. I guess that's how you learn, though.

*Update* Awesome! The nice lady I sold this set to uploaded a photo of the wisteria pieces being worn on her maiko katsura! [link] So kind of her to take a picture!
Oddly enough? I found your gallery because of your comments on that one journal with that one project. I agree with you, and sought out your gallery because we're like-minded.
Come to find out? Your work is infinitely better than the work of those begging for their names to be put up. Go figure, hm?
Anyhow, you have a real talent for these kanzashi things, and I like how you describe what their usage is for people like myself who are clueless about geisha/maiko culture. Thank you for the culture lesson as well!
Thanks! It took me a long time to learn how to make a large kanzashi project like this, you should have seen some of the first ones I ever made! I don't think they were even recognizable as flowers. I check the galleries of people I talk to as well, and sometimes I find some great stuff to look at!
I have nothing against those who want more exposure for their art, I just think that trading a watch for a watch is not a very useful way to get it.
But what really made me say something was the way the journal poster was so rude to anyone with a different opinion, and hid comments that listed far more effective ways for lesser known artists to get their art out there, and that could really have helped some of those new artists.
Some of my earliest drawings are not on dA because they blow. xD Hopefully you found something good to look at in my gallery. Not holding my breath, there... I'm still getting back into the swing of drawing after a couple years of not drawing at all.
I fully agree with you on that... watch for a watch is just... well, it feels ridiculously hollow to me, like "likes" on Facebook or "friends" on Myspace. I'd prefer to -know- my watchers. I don't like looking through my watch list and going "Who the hell is that? O.o" at a name.
I'm one of the many who had a dissenting opinion. My comment was flagged as spam and I was blocked so I could not reply. The poster is extremely immature, as well as rude.
