Legend of Zelda Loftwing hair clips! I had the idea to make these sometime in December, when I started playing Skyward Sword. I fussed over these things for days trying to find a design I liked, and a method of making them, and now they're finally finished! So happy!
The heads are sculpted from polymer clay, the talons are gold wire, and the rest is made from tsumami kanzashi petals. I based the design off the usual kanzashi crane style, and then adjusted the petals to fit the type of bird.
They're both mounted on large hair barrettes, and the dangles have been made with clasps so I can remove them for a simpler style.

The feather brushes I used for the image can be found here: [link]
Materials used: cotton fabric, (for the red bird) polyester blend fabric, (for the blue bird) wire, acrylic paint, cardboard, blank hair barrette, small crystals and bells, felt, cord, hot-glue.
To any of my watchers: Please forgive me for spamming your inboxes with various pictures of these birds. It took me a long time to finish, and I'm just really, really proud of them, in case you couldn't tell already! These have been my babies for the last month, so yeah...

*UPDATE* 2/28/2012
Oh my goodness! I had over 100 messages in my inbox this morning, and I had to double check and make sure my vison was ok. Thank you so much for the Daily Deviation! I would never have expected my work to be chosen for something like this, and I feel very honored!
Because I now have 700 messages and as much as I would like to, can't answer all of them individually, I want to thank everyone who commented, favorited, or just stopped by to have a look. It means a lot to me that other people would take the time to look at something I did. Thank you all so much!
These particular birds aren't for sale, sorry. I'm working on getting an Etsy store up at the moment, and I may have one or two there eventually, though due to the amount of work and the time it takes to make them they will likely be a bit expensive.
I don't think I'll be doing a tutorial on these, I worked hard on them and they're kind of special.
But you can find several basic kanzashi tutorials here on DeviantART if you search for them. This is a good one to start with if you're interested in learning: [link]
This might be the greatest Kanzashi ever.

for monsters under the bed
when we realized
they were inside us...
Thank you for your interest, though!
